Dr. Craig Welbourne grew up on a farm Southwest in Iowa. His late uncle Dale Welbourne, who had a large animal veterinary practice in his hometown of Neola, inspired him to enter the profession. He graduated from Tri-Center High School in 1967, and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1973. Dr. Welbourne practiced small animal medicine in Nashville, Tennessee and Sioux City, Iowa until 1977. He has been at the Oak Forest Animal Clinic since 1978. Currently, he is a member of the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association. Dr. Welbourne is interested in using natural remedies to compliment traditional veterinary treatments, and in general surgery. In 2003, it was his good fortune to have his son Ben and new daughter-in-law Megan join the Oak Forest Animal Clinic. In his free time he enjoys mountain and road biking with his wife Sue and daughter Bridget. Dr. Ben Welbourne grew up in the Chicago area where he developed his passion for veterinary medicine. He attended Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, and worked at Oak Forest Animal Clinic and other clinics in the area during that time. After high school Dr. Welbourne went on to Iowa State University and got early admittance to Veterinary School at the University of Illinois in 1998. Graduating with honors from U. of I. in 2002, Dr. Welbourne went on to do a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Florida Veterinary Specialist Center in Tampa, Florida. In 2003 he returned to Illinois and began practicing with his father Dr. Craig Welbourne. Dr. Ben's special interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery as well as diagnostic ultrasound, which he continues to train in.Other interests include hiking, biking and spending quality time with his wife and three cats. ![]() Dr. Megan Welbourne (formerly Hinkel) was born and raised in St. Croix, the U.S. Virgin Islands. She left the island in 1993 to attend undergraduate college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after working with several veterinarians during college. After graduating cum laude from Vanderbilt U. in 1997, she began veterinary school at University of Illinois. Dr. Megan graduated with honors from U. Of I. in 2001 and practiced for a year in a western suburb of Chicago. She moved to Tampa, Florida in 2002 where she practiced at All Creatures Animal Hospital. Then, in 2003 Dr. Megan moved back to Chicago and now practices at two clinics in the Chicago area. Dr. Megan's special interests include internal medicine and dermatology. When not at work, she enjoys swimming, reading and cooking.
